The Mal Wragg Award
Each year, HHTC honours our former producer, director and friend Marilyn “Mal” Wragg with The Mal Wragg Award, recognising dedication to our company.
A founder of Handsworth Operatic Society, Mal was central to its merger with Hallam Operatic Society, creating HHTC. She directed until her passing in 2006, working tirelessly on every aspect of productions alongside her husband Pete.
Affectionately known as “Auntie Mal”, she encouraged children and teenagers to discover theatre, many of whom still perform, direct and support HHTC today. Her passion, generosity and spirit remain at the heart of the company and its legacy.

"She was a friend and mentor and introduced me to this fantastic world of theatre providing me with some of the most amazing opportunities a girl could wish for."
"The Theatre Company was her passion, her life, her family, her world."
